Fallout New Vegas Patch Fixed

By Kevin O'Rourke, April 30, 2011 0

In the wake of some issues with the latest patch, Bethesda claims to have corrected the issues that players were having with Fallout New Vegas’ 1.3 Patch. This patch was slated to make New Vegas’ DLC work, along with correcting several balancing issues with weapons. Unfortunately the original 1.3 patch caused errors for PC and Xbox 360 players in the form of save files not loading. Bethesda seems to have worked everything out and posted this on their message boards.

“New 360 update is now available for the English version of the game, and with it, your saves should now load properly. When other versions become available, we’ll let you know.”

All issues were also corrected through Steam, so now PC and console gamers alike can scour the Mojave Wasteland without any more game-breaking errors.

Assassin’s Creed III Teaser Site Launched

By Joe Conkling, April 30, 2011 0

So without any questions, another Assassin’s Creed game will be coming out. ¬†Ubisoft set up a teaser site which encourages people to spread the word to speed up the unveiling of a trailer. With it currently being at only 3% it would seem we have some time before we see a concrete trailer. ¬†The production manager at Ubisoft,¬†Aza√Øzia Aymar, has answered questions on Twitter about it and said they are monitoring¬†#ACReveal tags. ¬†Aymar suggests that everyone go to the teaser site to make sure their clicks are tracked in revealing the trailer. ¬†The game’s name still hasn’t been given out yet. While my guess would be Assassin’s Creed III, it would be nice to see what other interesting names Ubisoft could put on the cover. It doesn’t seem likely that we’ll see any more news at E3, but keep this game in the back of your mind for now.

Fallout: New Vegas, 1.3 Patch to be patched for 360

By Aaron Ludington, April 29, 2011 0

Fallout: New Vegas is commonly known to have been ridden with bugs(and not just Radroaches), but the 1.3 Patch has quiet a nasty one. The bug has been hitting 360 users with game freezes and unplayable save files. Even our own Kevin O’Rourke has felt the sting of the patch.

Kevin has this to say:

“It’s unfortunate that the patch for Fallout New Vegas has broken the game. As of now I cannot load any saves and if I try to then my Xbox 360 crashes and the game freezes. I have not been able to play Fallout New Vegas which is a shame because I was just starting to enjoy the game but it looks like I’ll keep it on the shelf for a while. This setback makes me dislike Obsidian even more because in the past Bethesda has always been able to get patches to work. I’m not 100% sure if this is even Obsidian’s doing, but it doesn’t matter to me. As far as I’m concerned this is Obsidian’s fault for making the notoriously buggy game, even buggier”

A poster on the Fallout: New Vegas’ Official forum had similar comments:

“Great, get the day off, settled down in front of the Xbox to play New Vegas and guess what, it freezes. Thanks Bethesda!”

Bethesda Tweeted this in Repsonse:

“We’re aware some folks are having New Vegas save issues . We’re working with Microsoft on this and should have more information soon”

So a word of warning: Until further notice, do not accept the current update for Fallout:New Vegas for the 360.

Sony Daily Wrap up – April 29th

By Trevor Magnani, April 29, 2011 2

Due to the overwhelming amount of breaking Sony/PSN/PS3 stories we’re changing to a daily post for updates on the PSN.¬† You can also reference the shiny new network status box on the right side of the page for quick updates on the status of all 4 major gaming networks.

The news surrounding Sony has been literally flooding our news feeds, so lets go over what we know. We know that Geohot was not responsible for the PSN hack (Spoiler: He’s boycotting Sony), Anonops has denied organizing the take-down.¬† Your credit card information is encrypted, and that was something every PSN user was waiting to hear confirmed, but Sony is still recommending that users monitor their accounts and keep track of their credit scores.¬† Commenting on Playstation Blogs is impossible at this point unless you still have a cookie from a previous session, and as those cookies expire (1 week) users will not be able to comment on posts, but Sony is promising to keep everyone up to date with the latest status updates.

We still don’t know who hacked PSN, where they hacked it from, why they hacked it, and most importantly how they hacked PSN.¬† Geohot posted on his blog a lengthy entry talking about the PSN breach, condemning the actions of this hacker, as well as speculating how the break-in happened.¬† Geohot believes that there was a misappropriation of trust between PSN servers and PSN clients, as there was only security measures between users and their PS3 (client).¬† You don’t need to be an information security expert to figure out what happened next.

In their best move since the PSN has gone down, Sony has released two Q&A posts, You can check out the highlights of the FAQ beyond the break along with links to all the sources: Read More

L+R+A+Start Pikmin Minithon

By Kevin O'Rourke, April 28, 2011 2

Our good friends over at L+R+A+Start are hosting another marathon over at their site here. Be sure to navigate on over to their live page so you can watch. This time it won’t be for a charity and will just be for fun so you don’t need to empty your wallets at all. This is the first time they’ve done a minithon so make sure you check it out before it’s over! Here’s what the officially had to say about it:

Since there are only two games in the Pikmin series, we can’t call it a marathon. So this will be L+R+A+Start’s first minithon! It will also be our first minithon or marathon that is not in benefit of a charity. Why no charity, you ask? We have been getting requests to have some streams for fun, and not for a charity. In effect, this minithon will not benefit a charity.

Minithon start date/time: April 29st at 8:00 PM EST through April 30nd

So be sure to check out L+R+A+Start’s minithon on Friday. We’ll be around in the chat so you’ll see some familiar faces.

Complaining With George – Madden Cover

By George Pekar, April 28, 2011 3

He has successfully shocked the world, again. After a very good statistical season, underdog  Peyton Hillis (who was not even technically the starter at the beginning of the season) has won the first ever bracket challenge vote to become the cover athlete of Madden 12. The unlikely winner was the No. 10 seed on the right hand side of the bracket and had to go through. He steamrolled almost anyone in his way this season, and did the same in the voting. Hillis beat Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice (No. 7 seed), Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan(No. 2), Kansas City Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles (No. 6) and No. 1 seeded Green Bay Packers quarterback and Super Bowl MVP Aaron Rodgers to get to the finals. After this, he demolished the No. 3 seed Michael Vick in the finals with 66% of the votes. (1,091,677 were tallied) I personally cannot handle this occurrence and am upset to say the least. Watch below to find out why!

iBuyPower to sell computers through Wal-Mart

By Edward Biot, April 28, 2011 0

Some good news for anyone who wants a custom gaming PC but doesn’t feel like doing the construction themselves, according to an article from engadget, the custom computer building website iBuyPower.com recently partnered with superstore giant WalMart. What this means for you the consumer is you can now jump over to WalMart.com and build yourself a custom gaming rig. While you will only have limited options compared to building yourself or building straight from iBuyPower you will likely save yourself a few bucks and have the option of using WalMart’s “Site to Store” service if you don’t want your new rig shipped right to your doorstep. The PC’s will start at $599, if you hurry they are on sale right now for $578, and will come with a 1 year warranty and lifetime technical support.

Editor’s Note: This is good news for our staff as the GenGAME West Coast HQ currently runs on a custom iBP rig, and we’re looking at expanding soon.

Minecraft 1.6 Tipped & Approved Mods!

By Edward Biot, April 27, 2011 0

Notch, the creator of the wildly successful PC beta, Minecraft has recently begun talk of the next update to the game. With the 1.5_01 update now out Notch is announcing what the next update (1.6) will hold for the fans. So far Notch has said that 1.6 will be bug fixes and, possibly one of the biggest updates to hit Minecraft ever, the Map.

So far Notch hasn‚Äôt released too many details, but he has now confirmed that he is working on a map for update 1.6. From what we¬†know the map will be based off of the paper item you can currently craft in the game and will need to be equipped to your quick bar like any other useable item. Once equipped your character will hold the map out in front of itself and you can look down to see where you have explored. The map will start blank and slowly fill itself in as you walk around with it. For more information you can look on Notch’s blog and keep checking in with us at GenGAME, as we will bring you news about the update as we get it.
