For many Americans, Thanksgiving has become just the prelude to the all-consuming celebration of capitalism and human greed that is Black Friday. This year, our retail overlords have decided that even this wasn’t enough. Some stores will now have midnight openings for all of their sales, requiring shoppers to skip their family feasts and instead dine on chicken fingers from fast food restaurants. However, those brave souls willing to sacrifice family togetherness and memories that will last a lifetime get great deals on some video games. So if you are like me and have no reason not to risk death by trampling, hit the jump for what you could possibly grab out of the hands of a soccer mom in the early morning hours.
Walmart is starting the festivities at 10PM on Thanksgiving this year, and will be selling a limited edition blue Wii console for $100 for those few people who haven’t heard of the Wii U yet. If you’re interested in a 360, you can get one with Kinect and a $50 giftcard for $200. PS3’s are the same price, coming with LittleBigPlanet 2 and Ratchet and Clank All 4 One. Specifically in video game discs, you can pick up Bioshock 2, Yakuza 4 and Pure for $10, or spend $15 on games like Epic Mickey, God of War III, Heavy Rain, Dance Central 2 and Uncharted 2. If you have held out on picking up a copy of Battlefield 3, Batman Arkham City, Infamous 2, Killzone 3 and/or Gears of Wars 3, you can do so for $28 bucks each.
Best Buy is organizing their first major Black Friday sale in years, and there are some great pickups here starting at midnight. The biggest news might be that Assasins Creed: Revelations (which isn’t out till Tuesday) will be going on sale for $35. Other great pickups include 3 Month Cards of XBL Gold for $8, Homefront and Spider-Man Shattered Dimensions for $15, Sesame Street: Once Upon a Monster (as well as many other recent Kinect titles) for $25, and Deus Ex: Human Revolution and X-Men Destiny for $30.
Finally, Target’s video game deal main event is that they are selling 4GB Xbox 360s for $140, which is a steal. A purchase of a Nintendo 3DS earns you your own copy of Super Mario 3D Land. A copy of Resistance 3, or the not yet released Need for Speed:The RUN are $37, and a $10 gift card is given with the purchase of Skyrim, Ocarina of Time 3DS, or Rayman Origins.
