THQ announced today on the Darksiders II Community forum the various incentives for pre-ordering the game from different retailers.
The North American editions have been listed as the following:
Gamestop: ‘Death Rides’ Pack-Features multiple exclusive side-quests allowing players to explore more of the Maker’s Realm and Dead Plains. In addition players will be able to aid an ancient Construct, battle The Bloodless and retrieve Karn’s lost treasure.
Best Buy: ‘Angel of Death’ Pack-Features enhanced armor with an angel inspired design as well as a pair of matching scythes. In addition players will receive an exclusive purple colored visual trail for their crow.
Amazon: ‘Deadly Despair’ Pack-Features an additional speed boost for Death’s horse Despair, that allows players to traverse the world at a much faster rate.
They are continually updating with international incentives as the information becomes available, so don’t worry if you don’t see your region listed! No word yet on any specials for Steam.
While pre-order bonuses are a common occurrence with many game releases these days, these additions certainly beg the question as to which retailer THQ wants more sales from. As an avid fan of the original Darksiders, being forced to only get certain game-play experiences from a specific version of the game puts a damper on the anticipation of the release. This restriction would also put players who may not have access to those retailers at a disadvantage, especially the achievement hunters. Let’s hope that either they announce a collector’s edition with the Gamestop side-quests included or that the extra gameplay will be available as DLC.
