Now You Can Watch Eiji Aonuma Announce Wind Waker Wii U and Discuss the Other New Zelda

Yes, we know we don’t technically need to re-introduce The Wind Waker Wii U or the new Wii U Zelda game, both of which were announced and discussed during today’s Wii U Direct presentation… but we realize that some people might not have the time to look through the full presentation for the announcement and might prefer to hear the details from the mouth of Mr. Aonuma himself rather than read our secondhand reports. For those people, we’ve decided to share a video that shows only the new Zelda announcements from today.

Mr. Aonuma describes the philosophy of the brand-new Zelda for Wii U, including how they’re trying to break free from some unnecessary formulaic elements, such as a linear world design structure and a lack of support for additional players. The theme with the new Zelda will be to “rethink the conventions of Zelda.”

I like how twice now Nintendo has shown a beatiful tech demo for a Zelda on their next gen platform only to give people wind waker directly afterwards! At least this time they told people something else was on the way. However, I’m actually really liking the new life HD is giving WW I think it looks brilliant and would really enjoy a playthrough. As to where Skyward Sword looked like a water color painting, this looks almost like a claymation. It is also fun to compare this video to the HD upgrade done by dolphin posted a few days ago.

I can’t stop looking at this. It’s so beautiful. Even though it’s not Majora’s Mask :(

Wow, it looks like the Big N has been listening to Zelda fans that have been calling for an HD remake of Wind Waker AND to the ones that have been asking for new ideas in the new game. Awesome!

I’m really interested in the idea of an open-world Zelda (haven’t seen that in a LONG time) and curious about what multiplayer elements they’d incorporate.

  • Cryptique

Oh, please.. no multiplayer. I love it being a single player and I really don’t want others invading “my game.” I love playing because I feel like it is my time to shine. My escape from reality into this magnificent world where I can wander alone, fight and enjoy the world…. at least still have the option for single player. PLEASE!
